Steph Catudal lost her father to lung cancer days after her 14th birthday — an event that sent her into a tailspin of rebellion and alcoholism. Her life turned around when she met ultra-marathoner Tommy 'Rivs' Rivers. It was love at first sight.

In 2020, after a gruelling race along the bottom of the Grand Canyon, Tommy Rivs came home. All seemed fine until one night, Steph heard him cough and cough. It was a sound she hoped she would never hear again — the cough of someone with lung cancer.

Everything All at Once is Steph’s memoir of her experience with grief and the power of love. In it, she chronicles Tommy’s against-all-odds battle with rare and aggressive lung cancer, how they never gave up and how they inspired the medical community to join their fight for his life.

She recounts how the experienced forced her to confront her past and face a future of uncertainty, including being a mother. Today, Tommy Rivs is in remission, and they treasure every day.

This heartbreaking and heartwarming episode of Chatter That Matters reveals how someone else’s pain can impact your own life and war with feelings of gratitude, bitterness, anger and frustration. And how in Steph’s case, love prevailed.
