In the mid-1990s, Carey Nieuwhof took on three small Presbyterian churches in Barrie, Ontario and found a way to re-engage many who’d left the church or attended only for special events.
His next step was to bring the three separate churches together as the non-denominational Connexus Church to be more inclusive. Carey shares how the right concept, combined with technology, enabled the Connexus Church to become one of the largest and most influential in North America.
After many years, Carey stepped back from the role of head pastor and focused on sharing his learnings with other churches and organizations worldwide.
In 2012, Carey started a blog to help other leaders and later launched the Leadership Podcast — two projects that gained immediate popularity, reaching millions worldwide.
Carey opens up about the sacrifices he made as he built the church, the regret he feels for time lost with his family and his new mantra: “I want the people close to me to have the best experience of me.” He offers an inspiring message for leaders and listeners seeking direction and connection in this discussion about his calling, his family, and his community.
Tony Chapman created the Chatter That Matters podcast to counter the storm of negativity and impossibility with true stories of ordinary people who do extraordinary things. He chats with Olympians, Advocates, Celebrities, Leaders, and people who battled what seemed like insurmountable odds.
In doing, listeners hear life lessons that inspire all of us to do more and to be more, to help us get to where we need, want and deserve to go. RBC is the presenting sponsor.
