Dr. Emmanuel Taban’s journey is one of remarkable courage, persistence and conviction. Surrounded by destruction in rural, war-torn South Sudan as a child, Dr. Taban chose to focus on the joy and love in his life instead of the violence.
When imprisoned and tortured at age 16, he found a way to escape and travelled a long, treacherous road toward a better life in South Africa. He drew strength from a nurse’s comment when he was seven years old that he would one day become a doctor. He eventually became one of Africa’s most influential doctors and is renowned worldwide for treating COVID-19 patients.
Recognized as an advocate for education, literacy, hard work, honesty and integrity, Dr. Taban feels you’re never a victim unless you believe you are a victim. His memoir, The Boy Who Never Gave Up: A Refugee’s Epic Journey to Triumph, is one of purpose, humanity and destiny, focused on making the world a better place.
