In his youth, Neill Dixon was surrounded by music. Captivated by his older brother’s records, his love of music stuck with him through cross-continental moves. In high school, he joined a band but quickly realized he wasn’t meant to be on a stage. Instead he became the band’s manager and booking agent. It suited him and ultimately led to a career in managing, producing and nurturing talent.
In this episode of Chatter That Matters, Dixon walks through his start in the music industry, and his role in Triumph’s success. He chats with Tony Chapman about the early days of Canadian Music Week and how it’s become an international launching pad for new talent.
When he’s not organizing Canadian Music Week, Dixon runs the Virtual Voices Series, where industry professionals offer insights into the business. The series covers everything from the creative process to legal representation. It’s a series he’s proud to provide as a much-needed and accessible education to today’s young artists.
The first in-person Canadian Music Week festival since the pandemic returns this year to Toronto, running from June 6th to 11th. Tune in to hear what to expect in CMW’s long-anticipated comeback year!
Tony Chapman created the Chatter That Matters podcast to counter the storm of negativity and impossibility with true stories of ordinary people who do extraordinary things. He chats with Olympians, Advocates, Celebrities, Leaders, and people who battled what seemed like insurmountable odds.
