Lara Love Hardin found peace and escape in painkillers and heroin — finding herself on a harrowing descent into addiction, deceit and theft. From suburban soccer mom to the neighbour from hell, she ended up behind bars as inmate S32179. As a mom in jail with no kids to care for, she became a mother figure and champion to other inmates, earning her the nickname Mama Love.
Upon her release, Lara faced the mountain of rebuilding her life from the ground up. She landed a job as a part-time assistant at a literary agency after the president believed in her talent and second chances. Over the next 12 years, Lara collaborated on best-selling books, including ones by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama. She had lunch with Oprah. She became co-CEO of the agency and eventually founded her own.
Chronicled in her book The Many Lives of Mama Love: A Memoir of Lying, Stealing, Writing, and Healing, Lara Love Hardin’s story is a gripping tale of deceit, addiction and redemption.
