After graduating from university with a computer engineering degree, Anthony Lacavera had a line of people looking to hire him. But he wasn’t interested in joining a big tech company — instead, he wanted to blaze his own trail, feeling it was the less risky path.
“I never felt comfortable putting my life in someone else’s hands,” he tells Tony Chapman on the latest episode of Chatter That Matters.
Inspired by an entrepreneurial great uncle, Lacavera secured a $25,000 small business loan from RBC, which he developed — over ten years — into $700 million, with which he started Wind Mobile. He chats with Chapman about what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur, citing the hallmarks of his career — perseverance, discipline, good old-fashioned hard work and conviction. He discusses his mission — to lower prices for consumers and businesses — and shares that his drive to do so is born out of his love for Canada and all it stands for. He reveals why he didn’t want to sell Wind, why he was forced to and how he plans to get back into the Telco market to complete his mission of creating a competitive telecommunications industry in Canada.
Fueled by a drive to help society and see Canada reach its potential on the world stage, Anthony Lacavera has the mindset and motivation to continue making an impact that Canadians can’t help but notice.
Chatter That Matters is hosted by the Marketing Hall of Legends and the Canadian Marketing and PR Hall of Fame Inductee Tony Chapman. Tony wants to counter the storm of negativity and a growing sense of impossibility by sharing true stories of possibility and positivity. Stories of people who make things happen, despite today’s challenging circumstances. In doing so, he hopes their life lessons inspire others to do more and to be more. RBC is the presenting sponsor.
